By making the MC's friend an openly vocal pervert, he is no longer seen as a threat to readers self-inserting as the MC, because what girl would be attracted to such an uncouth, vulgar individual? The perverted friend's open admission of lust gives a voice to the base animal desires present in all boys, as well as the readers themselves, but simultaneously disqualifies him from any sort of romantic relationship, thus turning him into a "safe, comic relief character" instead of a dangerous romantic rival. However, this dynamic has been reversed in many NTR porn doujins. For example, Saruyama Kenichi is regularly depicted cucking away Rito's entire harem in multiple To-Love-Ru doujins. For readers used to underestimating the loser best-friend character, the concept of him secretly fucking the MC's girls must be a particularly humiliating and titillating fantasy.
